Supporters Fund Raising Meeting Report
No 1
24 November 2004
The first meeting of the new fund-raising initiative was for many
reasons a success despite the fact that the attendance could have been
better.
Having said that there were many positives that came out, which included
many suggestions for the future.
Among the suggestions were ways of raising the profile of the Cougars by
better advertising etc. for match days and cashing in on the facts that the son of the Great Britain Coach is actually playing for the club.
There has also a Subway franchise opened up in Keighley owned by non
other than Stuart Fielden of Bradford Bulls, and it was suggested that
they are approached in order that some publicity could be gleaned in
that direction.
A further suggestion was that everybody should attempt to find
advertising sites, in shops notice boards sports venues and the like,
lottery agents could also be asked to do the same, the more the merrier.
Martin Whiteley indicated that he might be able to persuade Wetherspoons
(The Livery Rooms) to do the same.
A suggestion was made for a new slogan on the lines of Tri-Nations Try
Cougars.
The possibility of the Cougars Cubs and the Schools teams appearing on
the pitch prior to the first game of the season with the first team
squad is the be investigated.
An after match Disco is also a possibility.
Theme Meal Evening was also suggested and, as they were extremely
successful in the past the idea was warmly welcomed.
The possibility of a sign in the bar area to advertise the fact that the
clubrooms can be hired for parties etc. The cost of which need to be
looked at.
Sandwiches sold at the bar, was met with a mixed response because the
burger van operates on the proviso that they are the only food supplier
on match-day, however it may be possible that when they close,
sandwiches could then be sold. Again this needs to be investigated.
A couple of items appeared unworkable were: (a) trying to attract the
Asian Community to use Cougars Park and to attend matches, because they
organise their own events and are not interested in Rugby League,
however it was agreed that the Asian Community do actually use the
ground for the annual charity Cricket Match versus the Cougars 1st team
nd they have used the ground for Kabadi tournaments, but since the
demise of the old club some 3 years ago have found another venue which
they are more than happy with. (b) Holding live Concerts like at Myrtle
Park. This would not be possible because of Health and Safety issues,
mainly because of the main stand being of timber construction. Indeed
the last event held at Cougar Park other than Football involved many
months of negotiation and hoop jumping to get it off the ground.
Since the meeting and a subsequent meeting with the Board of Directors,
it has been decided that it is now too late to stage any kind of event
before Christmas, and so a date has been pencilled in I the middle of
January to hold a Launch of the new season party which would be
attended by the players etc. and probably involve a disco of some kind,
suggestions and welcome. Volunteers will also be needed to get things
going please get in touch.
A date for the next meeting has not been set, but I will notify you in
plenty of time.
